Dance the Rage Away

We made some wee breakthroughs on the two new songs we'll probably play at the Viper Room Saturday.

1. "Blood On the Wind:"

About a hungry owl with ADD and a compassionate heart.

2. "Untitled:"

A dance song about love and karate (a.k.a. abuse) which revealed its meaning Monday. When you write a song there can be lyric stowaways that sound and feel right but don't fit with what you're specifically writing about. This song, about a young lady I know, kept getting visitations from the experiences of other women in my life. Plus, ideas I couldn't trace to a person just stole in. Sunday night an embattled woman's path crossed with mine. By Monday afternoon the stowaways popped out their little heads and locked their eyes with mine. Then they slid down Ray's sassy guitar groove and bounced up on the downbeat. Solution: dance the rage away.

New Slappings

I got orange-juice-slapped today...

A good friend of mine received a plate of chicken-fried steak and mashed potatoes to the side of his face once. Since that first "beef-slapping" we've kept an informal tally. I've personally been pudding-, whipped cream- and decorative palm tree- slapped. FYI: furniture, body parts, non-humorous and/or dangerous things (i.e. urine) do not count as a slapping.

In System Kid news, "new" is the operative word. We meet with Jerrell to discuss portraits on Tuesday. Sunday is a tentative photo shoot with Nnenna. I'll have a new microphone pre-amp soon. Evan is finishing the booklet for the Stampede EP to get printed. We'll play at least one new song at the Viper Room and begin tracking 3 new songs by March.

How the Hammer got Nailed

Santino made it to Fashion Week on Project Runway. He's been a muse to me lately so I can't wait to see what he creates for his collection. That's a highlight among heavier happenings. Sucks to kick off my part of the blog Debbie Downer style but its where I'm at tonight, so 2 things:

A child that I've spent 3 years working closely with is gradually transitioning out of my little brood. This will be a tough one. Lyric ideas about this kid have been cooking for a long time. They finally found music but its an uphill battle to get it just right. I've just about emptied my gas tank (literally, mentally) tinkering with the vocal part. Catharsis I guess.

I don't know how to approach the subject in a blog, but a friend is dealing with a serious illness. I'm starting to get what people mean when they say "social disease." As pack animals go, we humans have complicated ways of connecting. Fleetwood Mac wasn't kidding about "never break the Chain."

New site?

huh? where?
