getting ready for painting
i've spent most of the weekend getting ready for the painter to come (with the exception of the system kid show). he's going to paint the outside of my house. i had to do a lot of prep work so he can do his prep work. pre-prep work if you will.basically i had to replace all the plywood on the front of the house because it has cracks and rotting mainly from the sun. the house was built in 1987, so it's done it's job. now is the time to make it nice again.
i got my dad's trailer to go pick up some plywood first thing saturday morning. i got 7 sheets of 19/32" tongue and groove plywood and a couple of trim boards and some screws. after lots of cutting and attaching, it's all done. nice new plywood parts on my house, ready for the painter tomorrow.
the bad thing is that i had to return 3 sheets of plywood - those things were heavy. taking them back was just more work. the good thing is that it's money back in my pocket. each sheet was $24. we have hurricane katrina to thank for that.

freedom of choice
in our society, we have the freedom of choice. the problem is that we have nothing to choose from. all the houses look the same, all the cars look the same. the food at the Food Hall tastes the same.it's time for for us to stop embracing the same old crap and demand new design and more choices.
one reason i like working for a technology company is that new things are constantly being introduced to spice up interest. on the other hand, i also work for a state school that "sort of" talks about their students pushing the envelope while at the same time the bureaucracy that is the administration lives in the thick of sameness year after year. oddly enough the technology company has no concept of what their employees are worth with the cost of living going up and up, while the school is very generous with compensation.
it defines irony i suppose.
